Another Lincoln connection to Oregon came in the form of Simeon Francis, an Illinois journalist who was friends with Lincoln. Francis moved to Oregon in 1859 and became editor of The Oregonian newspaper in 1860 for several months. Francis expected an appointment when Lincoln became president in 1861. read more
