Puritans were people who disagreed with the standard Protestantism -- the national religion, Anglicanism -- practiced in England, in large part because of its strong similarity to Catholicism. Because of this they were persecuted. A group of them chose to leave England in search of religious freedom. These people were called the Pilgrims. read more
