Do airline pilots use their cell phones while in flight?

The company for which I flew, prohibited cell phone and laptop use in flight. Also, you are out of reach of a single tower most of the time. I have read where if you are in reach of many towers, your cell can't connect. I am not sure of this. A few phones that are being used will not interfere with the aircraft's navigation. read more

Cell phones must be swithced off before the flight starts. Some airlines have mobile or wifi networks on board and those are not supposed to be used from the cockpit during flight. Apart from the safety issue of cellphone use distracting the pilots during the operation, I find it, in a very personal way, as a very good way to cut my gadget usage for some time. read more

And we should really try to limit our cell phone use during flight to aircraft operations and emergencies only to ensure we don't lose focus on the task at hand and find ourselves the recipient of an FAA violation or worse, a fatal accident.
