A slightly complex answer. If by, do Marines have a permanent detachment on Carriers; then the answer is not anymore. There was a significant shift going back about twenty years. Marines used to be the primary security force for the Carrier in regards to the fact that a Nuclear power plant existed and needed protection. read more

No other Carrier I have served on had a detachment.Of course I am talking about actual CVN Aircraft Carriers, not the big-deck amphibs like LHA/LHDs, which some people like to also classify as Aircraft http://Carriers.To make things confusing, there may be Marines serving onboard a CVN on deployment as Marine squadrons (F-18s for example) can be assigned to the Carrier Air Wing. read more

Not a lot of marines but many/most aircraft carriers have Marines on them. Sometimes as security force personnel (particularly in the presence of nuclear weapons) and frequently because Marines air wings deploy on aircraft carriers all the time. The mechanics and pilots of a Marine air wing are not surprisingly Marines. read more
