So, so very important! I literally cannot skate on the plastic rentals at my home rink- I flail about everywhere like a dog in socks and even the simplest of moves becomes a major challenge. read more

Better skates do make a difference, but if the ice feels bumpy, the skates may not be done up tight enough. Also, if it’s the outside which slips then the rental blades are probably not sharp enough for what you are trying to do. If it’s the inside, then again, the skates aren’t tied up tight enough. A better fitting skate WILL make you a better skater. And if you're skating on old, broken down skates, a stiffer and lighter skate COULD make you a better skater.
