Everything I've found says that double-yolks aren't viable. If you think about it, isn't the white there for nutrition as the chick grows inside the egg? If so, then the double-yolk eggs, not having the room for double-white, would - at best - produce two very malnourished chicks not capable of survival. read more

I think that I found the answer. It can happen, but the size of the egg limits growth and survival. I found a video that shows the hatching of twins- fraternal apparently. The video is really slow- she actually helps the twins out of the egg because they don't seem strong enough to break out on their own. read more

Well, on occasion, a chicken will release two (or more) eggs into the oviduct and they will end up inside a single shell. These would be fraternal, not identical, twins. I’m not sure identical twins would be possible with chickens. My big question is whether twin chickens survive in nature. read more
