Remove from heat. Split vanilla bean length-wise and scrape the beans (they're tiny) into the milk/sugar mixture. Heat the mixture a tad, stirring in the tiny vanilla beans. Again, do not boil. With a large measure (I use a 3 tbsp measure) add a bit of the hot milk to the egg yolk mixture, stirring immediately. read more
