To be a NYC officer you must live in the city or Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Rockland, Orange or Putnum Counties. It is not easy to live on $50,000 per year in the areas. If they can stick it out their pay increases to over $90,000 in 5 1/2 years. read more

NYPD offers the option to take your overtime in benefit time or in pay. I know some officers who until they reached top pay took their OT in benefit hours, and then once they reached top pay they started taking it on their checks. read more
