Shearing the sheep is something mandatory we have to do to care for our animals just like deworming, hoof care, vaccinations, etc. Selling the wool pays some of the costs of the shearing but it's definitely a cost (at least for us in Europe; maybe there are sheep bred for wool somewhere else). read more

I do not own or raise sheep but have been friends with folks who do. They treat their sheep and other animals just like family. When shearing time comes it was funny to see the freshly sheared sheep running around acting like they’d been totally unburdened from all that wool. read more

DT: Just like going to the dentist, nobody loves getting sheared. If only sheep knew how much better it makes things in the long run! It’s funny: young sheep will fight against shearing pretty hard, struggling and kicking. But older sheep are pretty docile — they know the routine, it’s not such a big deal. read more
