Since Uber and Lyft drivers aren’t employees, Uber and Lyft can’t really command them to allow all pets. Drivers are independent contractors, who drive their own cars – not company cars. As such, they are allowed the discretion to decide whether or not they want to accept any particular animal. read more

Under federal law, Drivers are required to accept service animals into their vehicle. I see a lot of people on Facebook in Uber groups blame Uber for forcing drivers to accept service animals, but this is not the case. read more

Most Uber drivers will allow you to bring a small pet into their car, but drivers expect you to call them in advance to ask for permission. If you don’t ask for permission, expect to get a low rating from that driver and don’t be surprised if the driver turns down the ride when they pull up and see you with a dog. read more
