Do vets ever perform abortions on animals?

Best Answers

It is very common for dogs and cats to be spayed (have their ovaries and uterus removed) while pregnant, especially in areas with a huge number of intact, stray animals. We are preventing an increase in the population as well as further breeding by that animal. read more

Otherwise, vets will gladly perform a spay surgery and abort the puppies or kittens that way. But there is no good medical way to abort if it's too late to give a mismating shot, and no vet would do a C-section to terminate the litter and leave the pet intact. read more

Another cat was having kittens in another family's attic twice a year. Sometimes the animal was already pregnant and we'd abort the litter. We'd fix these non owned animals and they'd take and release them again. We did charge a bit more for the abortion though, since it was more involved. read more
