Just seconds before meeting Juliet, Romeo is still in love with an old lover {Rosaline}, which means that while Romeo found himself in love with Juliet, he was still in love with someone else, concluding that he was in love with two girls at the same time. read more

Not only do Romeo and Juliet, who (essentially) fall in love at first sight, end up dying tragically, but characters in Twelfth Night, As You Like It, Midsummer-Night’s Dream, and so on, all fall in love at first sight and find it ends badly. read more

While I do believe that young people are capable of feeling and believing in love, I do think that Romeo and Juliet are in love with the idea of being in love. I am not convinced that there is much in the text to reflect that there is a strong understanding of love between the two of them. read more
