Scale is such where you'd need to be at such a distance and height that you could notice it's curvature. As it's the largest one around and the others are far away enough you couldn't see them it's unlikely you would ever notice what it looked like. The slope of Olympus Mons is only around 5 degrees, well under the ~30 degree typical angle. In both cases I think the features are due to difference (and similarity) of plate tectonics. Olympus Mons is a shield volcano of basaltic composition, much like Mauna Kea, the shield that composes part of Hawaii. read more
