Assuming the sponge matrix expands when it gets hot, then the hot sponge would hold more water. Of course, if the hot sponge became more porous, maybe the water would flow out faster than from a cold sponge. read more

The material that absorbs water AND takes it away from a surface to leave it dry is more fully whetted by the water. This is a simpler way of saying the water makes a stronger chemical bond to the cellulose (my favorite) sponge or cotton towel than to the tile countertop. read more
