Some mature as high as 2500 F and some as low as 2200 F. “Maturing temperature is the highest amount of “heat work” that a clay can have before the clay begins to slump and melt and finally boil. So if a porcelain clay that is meant to only go to 2200F goes instead to 2400, it will melt. read more

Hard paste porcelain I think you're definitely going to need to go past cone 12 to melt. Probably going to have to dial it past cone 14. Soft paste will melt a bit lower, but how much lower depends on the mix. Most ceramics will melt by the time you hit 1600C. Pure Kaolin is going to take something like 1750-1800C before it melts. read more
