Does Raleigh, NC get tornadoes?

Having come from Oklahoma, I do not find the fairly infrequent tornadoes of North Carolina as frightening to those I used to be around. To be fair though, ANY tornado is dangerous and can cause destruction and even death (as noted by others responding this question). read more

Raleigh, NC is a Moderate Risk area for tornados. According to records, the largest tornado in the Raleigh area was an F4 in 1988 that caused 154 injuries and 4 deaths. *Tornado risk is calculated from the destruction path that has occured within 30 miles of the location. read more

That map does show the Eastern part of NC (which includes Raleigh and the counties East to the Coast), do have more reported tornadoes than the Western part, but even so I don't think it something to be worried about. read more
