It's just a simple misunderstanding. Buddha was born in about 2,500 years ago, in the district of Kapilvastu in ancient India. Now Kapilvastu district is part of Nepal, so Gautama Buddha was born in what is now country Nepal. read more

Gautama was born as a Kshatriya, the son of Śuddhodana,"an elected chief of the Shakya clan", whose capital was Kapilavastu, and who were later annexed by the growing Kingdom of Kosala during the Buddha's lifetime.
