Does Washington, DC experience severe winters, blizzards?

My husband lives in New York City while I live in DC, so I'm always comparing the weather in both cities. My unscientific conclusion over three years is that DC is always 5–10 degrees (Fahrenheit) warmer than New York in both winter and summer. read more

But, yes, DC does sometimes experience severe winters. The series of blizzards in 2009, referred to as Snowpocalypse and Snowmageddon come to mind. Those managed to drop nearly four feet (over a meter) of snow on the city without any thaw. read more
