The people of Coventry, England made a gift of a gold plated cross to be placed atop the Frauenkirche which collapsed shortly after the Dresden bombing. There has been a strong, sustained effort at reconciliation between Dresden and Coventry as the Coventry Cathedral had been destroyed by the Luftwaffe early in WWII. read more
The bombing of Dresden took place in February of 1945, when the writing had been on the wall for a while. At this point, it was obvious that Germany was not going to achieve its war aims and had been obvious for a while. read more
Bombing Dresden was a shameful act and a childish attempt at retaliation for Coventry. There was no real justification for it when the same bombs could easily have been directed at strategic, industrialised areas. read more
