Since it’s a meaningful phrase to say “It’s not like he’s dying”, there has to be some reasonable meaning to the word. I’d say it’s homeostasis, or self-maintenance: If you’re getting worse each day, and it’s expected that this trajectory will not end in not getting worse each day, you’re dying. read more
