There was an earthquake in 1992 35 miles south of Cairo that probably could be felt at the pyramids. But Egypt is quite seismically stable. read more
* The 1847 Al-Fayyum event is thought to have been of similar magnitude to the 1992 event. * The 1303 Crete earthquake caused major damage in Alexandria and Cairo, which means the great pyramids were also shaken. This earthquake is blamed for loosening the great facing stones, which were taken down in 1356 for use in other buildings. read more
