When it flakes off, it triggers allergic reactions. some people say that there are non shedding, non allergenic dogs, but even dogs you pluck rather than brush shed dander, and dander is the trigger. Cocker Spaniels shed a lot of hair. read more
Cocker's can have a mid length coat. You can keep it trim and clean, but ultimatly if you are concerned about allergies I'd get a dog with a smooth or short coat. There are Cocker's with smooth coats, so that's an option. read more
