In Germany, US Marines are still called ‘Ledernacken’ (leathernecks), an old slang term for members of the US Marine Corps. Unlike other European nations, Germany doesn’t have a Marine Corps and this is maybe the reason why Marines are regarded as a little bit outlandish and strange, similar to the French Foreign Legion. read more
