Horse's esophagi are much, much wider than humans. One at a time, peanuts wouldn't be large enough to block their throats. If they did manage to get a clump of peanuts stuck there (which would be hard as peanuts don't stick together) then yes, they could choke, but this would be easily fixable. read more

I am a vet, but I'm unaware of any research on negative effects of peanuts on horses. I feed them (shell and all) as an occasional treat to my IR horse. It's low in NSC, relatively high in Mg, and no more fibrous than anything else horses are meant to eat. I would imagine, in large quantities, a horse could choke (esophageal). read more
