The obvious first step is to start listening to a lot of blues. We like music that sounds familiar, so make it familiar. As you do, look for ways in which it speaks to you. I know the basic scales (major, minor, pentatonic and blues) and I can play some rhythm and very, very basic lead (as in Smells Like Teen Spirit solo basic). I listen to lots of blues including Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, SRV, Robert Johnson, Hendrix, Roy Buchanan, etc. I would love to play the learn to play the blues. read more
