North Idaho feels pretty disconnected from the other parts of Idaho. Its in a different time zone. It's not connected by freeways to the rest of the State, only 55-60 mph winding highways. It has a different geology and a much wetter climate. It was settled by different types of people than other parts of the State. read more

The southern area of Idaho is incredibly arid and, frankly, ugly, so people are less inclined to do any hiking or other outdoor activities in that part of the state.
