How connected does North Idaho feel to the rest of the state?

North Idaho feels pretty disconnected from the other parts of Idaho. Its in a different time zone. It's not connected by freeways to the rest of the State, only 55-60 mph winding highways. The southern area of Idaho is incredibly arid and, frankly, ugly, so people are less inclined to do any hiking or other outdoor activities in that part of the state. One of the other problems is that Idaho hasn't really focused their attention on the outdoor aspect of the state, being one of the poorer states in the nation. read more
