I will presume that by "spit" you mean "saliva." I do not know of any mantids that utilize projectile saliva in any way, whether by drooling it all over the place or shooting it like a bullet. If you ever find one, I would be curious to see it. read more
Praying mantis do not spit. They are very quick and will run if threatened. They do have pinchers and can pinch a person but it is rare. I breed a few different types of praying mantis and have never heard of them spitting. Stick insects on the other hand can submit a defensive spray that smells moldy and can be painful if it gets in your eyes. read more
