Thing is, an asteroid doesn't have to hit you to kill you. A big enough one doesn't even need to directly hit the earth to kill you. So of course the chances are beyond slim but archeological and historical record suggests that they happen regularly. In fact, every 50 years, earth is hit by an asteroid large enough to destroy a city. read more
