Strangely, the word “Airship” does’t get you the best bits about airships on the web. Civilian airships were derived from the pre-WW1 German Military design by Graf von Zeppelin-Staaken. During WW1 the German crews tried to avoid bad weather by flying above it. read more
Weather Woes . Weather has plagued many airship flights. Wellman’s America (1907) suffered compass failure during a two hour snowstorm (Payne 46). On its seventh flight (June 28, 1910), DELAG’s LZ7 (Deutschland) found that with even three engines at full power, it wasn’t able to stay on course in the face of a storm, and was blown into treetops. read more
