How did Fred Rogers get his start in television?

Educational Television Fred Rogers receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In November, 1953, at the request of WQED Pittsburgh, the nation's first community-sponsored educational television station, Rogers moved back to Pennsylvania. Rogers quickly caught on to the fact that he was being filmed for the show and surprised the show's producers by telling them he did not really need a television.
