Some believe (me included) that this was an Abrahamic test similar to when Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac. Joseph Smith certainly tried to ignore it for years. Those who practiced polygamy often did so at great sacrifice. It went away in 1890 and I am very grateful. read more
