The PlayStation is actually developed from a system called the Work Station that was a CD-based add-on for the Super Nintendo (to be called SNES-CD), and Sony would develop a built in CD-rom console (like the PS1) for Nintendo in the future, with the name being Play Station (space between the words). read more
