As most WW2 aircraft were unpressurised the repair to a metal structure was fairly simple. Just rivet a patch over the hole as temporary repair as long as no load carrying or critical part of the structure was hit. A more permanent repair would be carried out when the aircraft was next on scheduled maintenance. read more
