Banjo picking is based on rolls. Also, unlike guitar, the banjo picker plants his third finger on the banjo head. The P picks the 5th, 4th and 3rd string while (generally speaking) the I and M fingers play the 1st and 2nd strings. I play 5 string Bluegrass banjo - like Earl Scruggs, etc. You wear picks on your right thumb and the first two fingers of your right hand and you "pick" the strings. That is not how you do it with a guitar. read more
