I was in Croatia and Slovenia vacationing in 2010, and I think the Balkan region is the best kept secret in Europe. I think most Americans associate that entire former Yugoslav region with being war torn and dangerous, but otherwise we don't really think about Bosnia. read more

The only Americans who actually "feel" about Bosnia (and Herzegovina for that matter) do so because they have a co-worker, significant other, babysitter, relative-who-married-into-the-family, classmate, did service (NGO, SFOR, UNPROFOR, journalist), etc. Otherwise it's out-of-sight/out-of-mind. read more

Only thing they did was prevent us from liberating Bosnia completely from Serbian control. So you can see why many Bosniaks would not have a positive view on the US and it's foreign policy either. But that doesn't mean that we blame every single American for their government's mistakes or bad deeds. read more

What I think of, when I think of Bosnia, is what a historical mess is the Balkans. That the Serbs, the Croats, and the Bosnians were all the same ethnic group, separated only by the power politics of external empires. read more
