The predatory whales that grew large and began to live in large groups (pods) were the ones that had an edge in surviving Megalodon (and the giant sperm whale Livyatan), and Orcas were one of the cetacean that grew to large size and formed large pods most successfully. read more
When Megalodon was around, whales and dolphins were extremely vulnerable to attack, and large predatory sperm whales and killer whales were, as far as we know, just emerging. It had been a long time since Basilosaurus (a large whale similar in shape to the mosaurus that lived during the early Cenozoic, and in my opinion should be renamed “Basilocetus”). read more
