I equipped myself with a digital set of the Cambridge History of China, Joseph Needham's series on the History of Science and Technology of China, and several books on the history of Central Asia. The latter of which is fundamental to understanding China's constant struggle with northern herders and the development of trade across the grasslands to Europe. read more

The better way is to learn the Chinese history through both the Chinese and overseas materials. Needlessto say, history includes a large number of subjects and branches. So focusing on a certain couple of items is much easier and fun. read more
