How efficient is a Dyson fan compared to traditional fans?

I would not expect a Dyson fan to be as efficient as a normal fan for the reasons you cited. It's more efficient to accelerate a large mass of air to a small speed than a small mass of air to a high speed. And a Dyson does that. It accelerates a small mass of air to a high speed. read more

On the other hand, you don’t really buy a fan for efficiency. The cost to operate a fan is pretty low even if it’s not all that efficient. The Dyson fan has a coolness factor. I personally don’t think the it’s worth the coolness, though. I buy a cheap conventional fan and replace it every couple of years. read more

Before we get going with the data, one quick note: The Dyson AM06 has ten fan speeds but the Vornado and Honeywell only have three. As a result, the charts for those two fans have straight-line data between Low (1) and Medium (5) and Medium and High (10). read more

The Dyson Air Multiplier AM06 Table is designed with low power consumption in mind and, indeed, it is one of the most energy-efficient models available. Its smooth airflow means less wear on the motor, too, so it lasts much longer than traditional fans. read more
