Penguins have been seen on Ipanema beach. From personal experience, penguins were regularly seen just south of Puerto Montt, at least around 1950. Penguins are to Chile what Pandas are to China, foreign ambassadors of good will that make everyone smile. read more
They are migratory penguins but can best be seen in colonies in Punto Tombo, Argentina; Morillo Island in the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia; and Magdalena Island near Punta Arenas, Chile. The largest colony of Magellanic penguins in the world is at Punto Tombo where, in season, you can walk amongst half a million penguins. read more
