I got about 1/2 way through Yusupov's first Build Up Your Chess book, Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move and Chernev's Capablanca's Best Chess Endings. I did primarily pattern recognition type tactics problems on chesstempo. These ones I turn the rating way down on the problem set such that I try to average about 20 seconds per problem. read more
