How is skiing Mt. Hood in late July?

The terrain available to ski is extremely limited. In late spring and early summer, depending on the year, you may be able to ski from the top of the highest lift, on Palmer snowfield, all the way down to Timberline Lodge, at the bottom of the Magic Mile lift, or even on the lifts below that. read more

In late Spring (usually around May) the lifts start operating at 8 am and close by about 2 or 3 pm. In the middle of Summer, lifts operate 7 am - 1 pm. The available skiable terrain keeps shrinking. In June, July, and August, as the snow melts everywhere, the snow shrinks down to just a square patch of snow known as the Palmer snowfield. read more

Skiing at Timberline (the only one of Mt. Hood's four ski areas that operates nearly year-round) in the summer is nothing like skiing at most ski areas: Most of the people skiing there are not tourists or recreational "day skiers."
