How long do honey bees live after they sting you?

It depends on the type of the honeybee. When the (worker) honeybee stings a human, the stinger is stuck to the human's skin. Then, the honeybee instinctively tries to fly away, leaving behind a fraction of its inner parts, something that results in the honeybee's instant death. However, this applies only to worker honeybees. read more

The answer actually depends on what kind of bee stung you. Honey bees do, indeed, die after they sting you, but other bees (and wasps, for that matter) can sting you and live to fight another battle. The stinger (or sting) on any bee or wasp is actually a modified ovipositor. read more

They can live a little while, a couple minutes to maybe even an hour, but they're doomed. Those of us who practice Bee Venom Therapy will kill the bee right away after it stings, to end its suffering. read more

It doesn't stick in all animals, though; a honey bee could sting a large insect, for example, and pull out her stinger safely. But for humans and other mammals with thick skin, the stinger gets stuck. When the bee tries to escape after stinging, she will inevitably break off her rear end and possibly disembowel herself and die. read more
