I don't know. What I do know is that there are only about 200 classical pianists in the world that make their living primarily by giving concerts and recitals. That figure has not change in decades. Dunno. It depends on what counts as an amateur pianist. A huge percentage of the world has been around a piano enough to be able to pick out a simple tune. Less would be proficient. It's impossible to say, partly because we'd need to define our definitions. read more
