I'd say Kyoto deserves at least 4 entire days and Tokyo you can do in 3. This is not counting the travel time between cities. We took the train but stopped in other cities along the way, so I cannot tell you exactly how long it takes. However what I can tell you is that the train is an excellent choice, especially the bullet train (Shinkansen). read more
