I would take this estimation of ~700-~800 and double or triple it to determine how many distinct tribes existed in the United States before there were federally united states. New tribes were birthed as a result of intermarrying and subsequent moving between tribes, and tribes disappeared as members were killed or slowly aged themselves into a zero birth rate. read more
