For the last few years, the number of visitors to Salem on Halloween night has been between 80,000 and 100,000. That is a lot in a city of 42,000. Last year, despite all the drinking and foolishness, there were no arrests, just a handful locked up overnight “for their own protection”. read more

Usually the MBTA adds extra trains on Halloween and the weekend or two before, but this isn't announced until October. The festivities conclude with fireworks at about 10:30 and after that there's a big effort to move people to the train station and parking lots. read more
