There are more than 263.6 million registered passenger vehicles in the States ( more than 25% of all personal vehicles in the world that are registered). Oil demand in the transport sector experienced annual average growth of 33.4 mtoe between 1973 and 2012. Naturally, this is related to the increased use of transport vehicles such as passenger cars and airplanes.
