Depending on the shape of the stone, as much as 80% will be "lost" during cutting (although some of the pieces can be sold as smaller polished diamonds). If everything goes extremely well, you end up with something like this, which sold for $25.8 million at auction. read more

Every diamond is worth what someone will pay you for it. Since these are 'black market' diamonds and are dealt in secret, you want to pay less/ sell for a lower price -- as a blood diamond than as a Kimberly certified diamond. read more
