How safe is it to microwave food in a plastic disposable bowl?

Good answers so far concerning the food safety of different polymer resins in the microwave, though I would add this bit: in the case of a prepackaged meal sold in a single use plastic container, if it's marked - either on the outer packaging or molded into the disposable container itself - that the product is intended to be heated in a microwave in its container, then it is reasonable to conclude the disposable bowl is microwave safe and no contaminants will leach into the consumable product. read more

If you're concerned about plastic wraps or containers in the microwave, transfer food to glass or ceramic containers labeled for use in microwave ovens. Don't let plastic wrap touch food during microwaving because it may melt.
