How safe is West Africa during the daytime and nighttime?

Well I live and travel with a girlfriend in Nigeria, but there are issues. I don't know that you need an organized tour, although I wouldn't argue against someone who wanted to travel that way. I think 'West Africa" has regions across the various extremes of security. Traveling during the daytime is typically safe, it's the"camping outdoors" that I would be worried about. Generally, the outdoor environment (Weather, wild life) is relatively harsh, even for natives, i like to wonder how you would find it. read more

Most coastal countries in West Africa are considered safe for travel, including Cameroon, Benin, Togo, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Equatorial Guinea; this includes inland regions of these countries. Offshore, Cabo Verde and São Tomé & Príncipe could just be the region's safest destinations. read more
